PICaboo Contributions at IPC 2025

We are pleased to announce that two papers affiliated with the PICaboo project have been accepted for presentation at the Integrated Photonics Conference (IPC 2025), which will take place on 9โ€“13 November 2025 in Singapore. Both contributions come from the Photonic Integration Group at Eindhoven University of Technology (TU/e) and highlight advances in polarization control and fabrication-tolerant waveguide designs.

๐Ÿ“Œ TuG1.4 โ€“ Etch Engineered InP Processing for a Fabrication Tolerant Slanted Waveguide

This paper presents a fabrication-tolerant process for slanted waveguides in photonic integrated devices. By employing an etch-stop waveguide parallel to the main structure, the team leverages the self-limiting feature of bromineโ€“methanol etching. A resulting V-groove allows for controlled etch termination, demonstrated on InP waveguides.

๐Ÿ• Time: 8:30 am โ€“ 10:00 am
๐Ÿ“ Date: Tuesday, 11 November 2025

๐Ÿ“Œ WD3.5 โ€“ A Compact Waveguide-Based Integrated Polarization Controller Using an Optimized Differential Phase Shifter

This work introduces a compact (<3 mm) waveguide-based polarization controller using a strain-enhanced birefringent InGaAsP multi-quantum well structure. Simulation results demonstrate that with a low driving voltage of just 1.5 V, any input polarization can be precisely adjusted at the output to a pure linear polarization across the C-band.

๐Ÿ• Time: 1:45 pm โ€“ 3:15 pm
๐Ÿ“ Date: Wednesday, 12 November 2025

๐Ÿ”น Topic: Optical Communication โ€“ Devices, Interconnects and Subsystems
Authors: Kolsoom Mehrabi, Floris Jan Pronk, Jos JGM van der Tol, Weiming Yao
